Today the church regretfully ignores this prophecy  and most evangelist's totally leave it out of their  prophecy seminars.

Up until now the Adventist church has had a historic interpretation of this prophecy which originated from the Advent movement of the 1830's and 1840's.  Today some are taking a fresh look at this prophecy to see if there isn't possibly a special meaning for the last days.

Before we can examine a possible end time scenario for this prophecy we need to make a few things clear right from the beginning.

The 1335 day prophecy does not set a time for the Second Coming

The 1335 day prophecy does not set a time for the close of probation

The 1335 day prophecy doesn't even set a time for the Later Rain

If you have come to believe  the historical view of the 1335 day prophecy ending in 1843, then my hopes are that these admissions at this beginning of this article will put your mind at ease, so that it can remain open to studying the rest of today's message.

Some think that any future application of the 1335 day prophecy is an attempt to set a time for the second coming. So let me say this one more time. A future application of the 1335 day prophecy does not set a time for the Second Coming of Jesus.

Presenting this topic is not going to be an easy task. This is a complex subject to write about. Unfortunately there is some bad teaching out there connected to this prophecy  that needs to be addressed. This article will address the various teachings now currently in circulation as well as certain statements in the Spirit of Prophecy that have been used to lock this prophecy in the past.

At the mention of a future application of this prophecy some react  as though the moral fabric of Adventism stands or falls on a historic understanding of the 1335 days. This simply is not true. I wish I could simply get to the point about what this prophecy really is saying, however due to previous ideas connected to this prophecy We really need to address why those ideas simply do not work in order for us all to be open to hearing what this prophecy is really all about.

What led the pioneers to arrive at their conclusions?

The Bible contains several instances in prophecy specifically dealing with the 1260 years of the Dark ages between the years

538 A. D. -1798 A. D.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. (Dan 7:25)

And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. (Rev 12:14)

Now lets look at this text.

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Rev 12:6

This is a parallel passage to verse 14 quoted above.

"they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days." verse 6

"where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time" verse 14

This gives us a clear Bible definition of times time and a half. It equals a thousand two hundred and threescore days or 1260 days.

Now lets look at Daniel 12

And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and swore by him that liveth forever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished. Daniel 12:7

So we see clearly that verse 7 mentions 1260 days.

times = 2 years or 720 days (Hebrew Calendar year is 360)
time = 1 year 360 days
and half = 1/2 year or 180 days

which is a total of 1260 days exactly as we find in Rev 12:6.

Our early pioneers made an assumption that the 1260 days in Daniel 12:7 was the same as the 1260 day / year prophecies found else where in prophecy. This premise strongly influenced their understanding of the 1335 day prophecy. Unfortunately presumption led to making several mistakes.

Daniel 7 has symbolic beasts, the time prophecy in this chapter is symbolic time, a DAY FOR A YEAR

Revelation 12 has a symbolic beast, the time prophecy in this chapter is symbolic time, a DAY FOR A YEAR

Revelation 13 has symbolic beasts, the time prophecy in this chapter is symbolic time, a DAY FOR A YEAR

In my article "Day for a Year" Principal" we discussed the rules for applying a day for a year in bible prophecy. I hope you have read that article. If not you really should do so to fully appreciate this essay.

The Day for a year principal DOES NOT APPLY to Daniel 12. This chapter does not fulfill the necessary rules for applying that principal.

There are NO ARE NO SYMBOLS in this prophecy that require other passages of scripture to interpret them. This is a literal prophecy, and therefore the time mentioned in this prophecy is literal as well.

The day being SYMBOLIC for one year does NOT apply every time the word "day" is seen in the Bible!

The day being SYMBOLIC for one year ONLY is applicable in prophecies of a SYMBOLIC nature

Daniel 7 has 4 beasts ALL SYMBOLIC
Revelation 12 has a 7 headed Dragon SYMBOLIC
Revelation 13 has a 7 headed beast SYMBOLIC

Therefore the 1260 days in these prophecies are SYMBOLIC of 1260 literal years.

Daniel 12 is NOT symbolic. neither are the days symbolic.

Prophetic time or "SYMBOLIC DAYS" being literal years only applies to prophecies which uses symbolic language.

There are NO symbolic beasts or other symbols used in Daniel 12, Everything from the Time of trouble, to the resurrection is literal, therefore I find no inconsistency in looking at literal passages as literal days, and in other prophecies where symbolic beasts are used, the days mentioned become symbolic days which translates a day into a year.

It is not reasonable to pick and choose which days to call symbolic and which to call literal at a whim. There must be sound rules to distinguish which are which. There are other places in the Bible which refer to days, We cannot automatically make them symbolic days with out there being symbolic language in the prophecy.

The Bible gives this order.
1. 1260
(Dan 12 v. 7)
2. 1290
(Dan 12 v. 11)
3. 1335
(Dan 12 v. 12)

This historic view gives a different order than the Bible gives. (see above chart)
1. 1290
2. 1335
3. 1260

On what Biblical grounds did the pioneers rearrange the order of events given in Daniel Chapter 12?

Whether or not we like to, we need to look at the hard facts. The methods our pioneers used to “interpret” this prophecy were not good hermeneutics. Instead of using standard biblical methods of interpretation, the early pioneers looked for events in history to fill in the gaps. These events which they selected are not found anywhere in prophecy. Not only that, the only way they could apply these events to the 1335 day prophecy was to rearrange the order found in the Bible (see note to the left).  These alterations were made without the slightest biblical support.

2 Peter 1:20  Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

We have prophetic grounds to begin the 1260 years of Daniel 7 and Revelation 12, 13 in 538 A.D. and end it in 1798 A.D.

We have prophetic grounds to begin the 70 weeks and the 2300 days in 457 B.C.

We have no prophetic grounds to begin the 1335 days in 508  A.D. The authors of this interpretation pulled this date out of a historical rabbits hat. No Prophecy of Scripture warrants this to be the start date! Furthermore I find no scriptural, prophetic support of Clovis in 508 A.D.

Historically 508 A. D. was an important year, nevertheless prophecy makes no mention of this event.

In 508, Clovis--the king of the Franks--became converted to Catholicism, and conquered the Goths. This gave the papacy supremacy not only in the east, but now also in the west (see 4BC 881).

Other prophecies give solid support to the 538 AD - 1798 AD dates, and since our pioneer's were familiar with the 1260 years of Daniel 7 and Revelation 13, they automatically concluded that the 1260 days of Daniel 12 must be the same 1260 prophetic days - literal years of the dark age as mentioned in these other prophecies. When they did this the pioneers were faced with the problem of what to do with the 1290, and 1335.

As long as the pioneers believed the 2300 days ended in 1843 the placement of the 1335 days seemed obvious. However the 1290 days did not seem to fit anywhere, so they looked for an event in history which would serve as a reasonable explanation.

The pioneers searched history for ANYTHING they could find to help make sense to these dates. Clovis's event 30 years before 538 A.D. was the only thing they could find.

As a result they had to rearrange the order of this prophecy. The 1290 starts AFTER the 1260 in the book of Daniel and yet they took the 1290 out of the Bible order and rearranged it to make it fit their theory.
