If we read Revelation 1 we get an update of what Christ
looks like today. When he was transfigured on the mount
his face began to glow as bright as the sun.
The skin color of Jesus 2000 years ago becomes
irrelevant, when we know that He will radiate light and
glory, not a skin color when we behold him.

As Christian's we shouldn't
adopt societies racial issues. It is a sad commentary to admit
that some aspects of society does have its own hang ups when it comes to
ethnic diversity. Below is a perfect example.
O. J. wasn't the only one
busted that week!

I n
the beginning God made man from the dust of the earth, and called him
Adam. It is believed by some that his color had a reddish tint like that
of clay. We do not know for sure, but it is quite likely he was
definitely not white, or black.
A personal belief of mine is, that the differing races and their colors
began at the same time God confused the languages at the tower of Babel.
This is quite possibly when Oriental, African, European, Arab, and
Spanish races were given there new paint job and body work :)
The races all had their own languages and distinctive appearance. The
command was to go to all the world and populate it. Naturally the men
with one color of skin and language would stick together. White folks
went west to Europe. Black folks went south to Africa, and Oriental
folks went to the east, spanish folks went to Southern Europe, and
migrated to South America. Mean while Arab's stayed in the middle east.
My point is, God made us all. He is not a respector of persons, and he
loves diversity.
It is interesting to note, that the first gentile to be baptised into
the church was a black man, the ethiopian. Racism is a sin. It is
demonic.
Now I know your comment is academic in nature, I just needed to say
that, because it is true.
The Gospel needs to go to all the world to every tribe of people.

"No one knows for certain what Jesus looked like except that he was
common looking and had a beard, and was born of the tribe of Judah, to
the Hebrews."

King David closely resembled the skin color of Adam, This fact gives
evidence, that David's ancestors did not have their skin changed at the tower of
Babel like the others did. Only those building the tower of Babel had their
languages and skin colors changed. Jesus likely had the skin color of Adam and
King David. Which makes it equally possible, that King David was speaking the
same langauge as Adam. Hebrew is possibly the language given to us in Eden.
1Sa 16:12
(12) And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy , and withal of a
beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint
him: for this is he.
David was a hebrew. A Hebrew, is a group of people from the territory of Hebron,
Which was the people that descended from Abraham.
Technically that included the Tribe of Isreal, and what we now call the Arabs.
However once the people of Israel became slaves in Egypt they were the only ones
to be called Hebrews. Edomites did not want to be classified with slaves.
Jesus was a Hebrew. He was not European, which means he was not white. He was
not Oriental, or spanish. Neither was he African, which means he was not black
either.
He was a descendant of Abraham, and King David, so he had Hebrew skin.
So back to the question? Why do people portrait Christ as white? We all like to
identify with Him. Black people paint him black, and white people paint him
white. I saw a picture of him where he was actually painted as a man with Hebrew
type skin, and thought that was well done.
No one knows for certain what Jesus looked like except that he was common
looking and had a beard, and was born of the tribe of Judah, to two hebrews.
If we read Revelation 1 we get an update on Christ's appearance. When he was
transfigured on the mount his face began to glow as bright as the sun.
The skin color of Jesus 2000 years ago becomes irrelevent, when we know that he
will radiate light and glory not a skin color when we behold him.
In the new earth there will be neither male nor female, we will be like the
angels, who faces are as bright as the lightning Matt 28:2-5.
Race will be a thing of the past, so my suggestion is to live out our lives in
such a way, that we reflect his glory now so we will reflect it more fully then.
